About

What is Webmonsters?
Webmonsters is a unique opportunity for industry leaders, researchers and vendors to discuss
the current and emerging trends in innovative operations and ground breaking engineering of
Internet technologies.

The group is a close knit group of high-level technical Engineering + Operations folks
(director-level and up) from major websites. The group was started by the “webmasters” of
Netscape and The Discovery Channel in 1995 and has held annual conferences since then.

The main purpose of these conferences and our mailing list is to discuss and share best
practices, pitfalls and experiences gained with large scale Internet systems: server
platforms, operating systems, network equipment, application servers, monitoring tools,
bandwidth providers, colocation providers, storage, databases and all the other glue that
makes our world go round.

Who runs Webmonsters?
We have an informal organizational structure led by a four member Board of Directors
and can be reached via board@webmonsters.org. The Board is comprised of:

Omar Ahmad
Jonathan Heiliger
Jim Jones
Joe Wilson

Can I share the meeting details with my favorite vendor salesperson or
someone outside the group?

Webmonsters discussions, both in person and on the mailing list, are covered by what’s
come to be called, “the gentleman’s NDA.” The idea is to establish a trusted
environment where group members feel comfortable having candid conversations.
Information gleaned, shared or otherwise disseminated at the meeting or via the mailing
list should be treated as you would your own “company confidential” material, especially
if someone prefaces a comment by noting it’s a “pencils down” conversation.
